Republicans Stumped After Mitt Romney Drops In the Polls

Republicans are at a loss for words when it comes to the recent drop in polls for G.O.P. nominee Mitt Romney. Polls released earlier this week show Romney dropping as many as nine points. With the Republican National Convention a little more than two weeks away, Republican honco’s are stumped by the drop in numbers. A senior Romney adviser told a group of reporters gathered at a briefing at the headquaters in Boston,
"It’s the middle of summer. It’s the doldrums. It’s the middle of the Olympics. There's not been any national news, anything that would push these numbers from minus-three to minus-nine points. That's a huge shift. You have to have some kind of precipitating event to move numbers like that."
According to that same adviser, polls shift all the time and the camp isn’t basing too much credence on the polls. The 2012 election is only 88 days away.
