Look Out For Noah

Joakim Noah knows how to make a name for himself. Rather if it’s because he wore something weird, or he said something to stir drama but now he’s being talked about because he hard work. Noah is making career high moves, averaging (so far) in points per game (13.5), assists per game (4.5), blocks per game (2.2) and (1.4) steals per game heading into today's game with the Houston Rockets. If all of Noah’s season averages hold, he will join Hall of Famers Kevin Garnett, David Robinson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bill Walton, and Bob Lanier as the only players to hit all of those benchmarks over an entire season. This is great to see one of our players with heart still going and Rose has to be inspired be this. Let this motivation carry on into next year guys, especially when Rose does come back. BULLS NATION!!

Artist of Appreciation: Missy Elliott

When it comes to the ladies in Hip-Hop there’s a handful you can name, one of them is Missy Elliott. Missy’s has knocked down barriers for female artists and rappers making a brand for her. She got her start with her fellow partner in crime Timberland and Magoo in the early 90’s. Missy and Timberland wrote and produce songs together for groups like SWV and 702. They also brought in other artists to the game such as Aaliyah, Ginuwine, Lil’ Mo and more. Missy was featured on a track by 702 called “The Things That You Do” and caught America’s attention with her catchphrase “He He He How” that landed her with a record deal of her own. Her 1st album “Supa Dupa Fly” was just that and flew right of the shelves going platinum with hits like “The Rain”. After that the hits kept coming along with the most entertaining videos in Hip-Hop. She’s won 5 Grammies and in total sold over 30 million records and being the only female rapper to have six albums certified platinum by the RIAA. Missy still works with Timberland till this day. Missy shows how to get it done and have fun with it.

Album Review "Finally Rich"-Chief Keef

Chief Keef’s debut album “Finally Rich” hit stores and ITunes yesterday and it already is the topic of discussion. Laced with Young Chop beats, “Finally Rich” as a whole is as infectious as the single that started it all, “I Don’t Like.” The 12 track (15 on the deluxe edition) features heavy hitters Rick Ross, Young Jeezy, 50 cent and Wiz Khalifa and fellow GBE member Lil Reese. The production is mostly handled by Young Chop and YG with one song “No Tomorrow” being produced by Mike Will Made It. Considering this is his debut album, this is a solid release from Keef. He reintroduces himself as a larger than life figure from Chicago’s South Side and he definitely has the city riding with him! Congrats to the homie and check out his latest "Love Sosa" below!

The Year of the Hustla-Chella H Proves Its Not Just A Man's Game Anymore!!!

The First Lady of Chicago has no intention of slowing down and if 2012 was any indication of how Chella H’s career is going to be in 2013-I hope the South Side Diva has on her seatbelt. Following her appearance on MTVs Suckerfree Countdown: Chicago Edition, Chella has been hard at work making even more of a name for herself. This year she started the Real Bitch Episodes on Youtube, released her “The Morning After Pill” mixtape and more recently released a video to Love Chella. The video has only been up a week but is already well on its way to reaching 20,000 views. Check out Chella’s video below and don’t forget to download her current single “Ugg Boots” available on Itunes!

Pavy "If I Told You (Twerk)"

Chicago busy body Pavy is back with a video for his infectious track “If I Told You (Twerk).” The video was directed by Thomas Price and will definitely have u nodding your head to the beat-and the girls in the video.

He’s had articles from the famous sneaker blog NiceKicks.com for his mixtapes and his thoughts about certain shoes. Congrats to this young up & comer!!!

Drop In Gas Prices Expected to Increase Holiday Travel

If you’ve been making trips to the pump lately, then you’ve probably noticed the decline in gas prices. Chicago once had the distinction of having the highest gas prices in the country, but now we are seeing a slow drop in the cost of filling up. According to the Chicago Tribune;
"Chicago area, regular gas averaged $3.398 Tuesday, down from $3.631 a month ago but up from $3.369 last year at this time.”
The plunge is expected to boost holiday travel and according to the AAA-Chicago Motor Club;
“Year-end travel will be at its highest level in six years.”
Will any of you guys be hitting the road for the holiday?

Bulls Dominate Celtics!!!

The Chicago Bulls are hell bent on letting people know, just because Derrick Rose is out, doesn’t mean they don’t have intentions of making it to the playoffs. Since the beginning of the month, the Bulls have won an impressive 7 out of 10 games. Last night’s victims came by way of the Boston Celtics. The last meeting of the Bulls and Celtics did not go in our favor but keep in mind Kirk Hinrich was out. This matchup between the two teams showed that not only are the Bulls the team to watch, but once Derrick Rose returns the Bulls should find themselves in playoff contention. Last night’s power players included Joakim Noah-who with 11 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists-had his 2nd career triple double and Nate Robinson who went on a 3 point bonanza in the 4th quarter. In the end everyone in the United Center got their free Big Macs and the Chicago Bulls beat the Celtics 100-89.

Sound Off!!!! Is World Star Hip Hop Bad for our Community???

We’ve all been there. Even if we don’t admit it to our friends, many of us do in shame what we are afraid to do in public. You know I’m talking about, World Star Hip Hop (WSHH). WSHH is a website, contrary to what its name suggests, that has some of the most controversial videos found on the internet. While other sites are ashamed to post illicit content, WSHH gobbles it up as if it were a last meal. The website began in 2005 and garners in more than a million hits per day. What began as a simple mixtape distribution website is now the leader in urban content and while WSHH has seen its share of controversy, it shows no signs of slowing down-but we have to ask ourselves, at what cost. Like I said before WSHH is THE website to go to for urban content, but how much of that content is damaging to our community. If you go to the website, you must first scroll through pages and pages of “ratchedness” to even find a hip hop video. While there is no shortage of girls busting it wide open or gangsta’s threatening your favorite artist, it is extremely difficult to find anything positive on World Star. If this is the premiere website for our community, what is it saying about our culture? World Star needs to be able to find a balance between the good and the bad if it wants to represent the Hip Hop community effectively, well at least if it is operating under the name of World Star Hip Hop!

President Obama Speaks On Connecticut School Massacre!!!

One of the hardest things to do to a friend is console them during their time of need. Well this past week, President Barack Obama had the task of comforting a grieving nation. Following the Connecticut school shooting, the President addressed the nation, wiping away tears as he read off the names and ages of the victims. In total, 26 people-20 of them young children lost their lives Friday and the President guaranteed a change to current gun laws. The tragedy has sparked the highly controversial gun law debate however there is a sense that this particular senseless act will ignite change. Let’s continue to pray for the families affected and our nation as a whole.

DJ Que Eleven and DieselBeats Presents "Alien"

DJ Que Eleven has been putting in work this year and the fruit of that hard work is the “Alien” EP. Available on ITunes, “Alien” features Philadelphia native Fiq, President Tel, A$A and more. Produced by DJ Que Eleven and DieselBeats, it is the perfect hybrid of Chicago’s eclectic music sound. Greatly influenced by the heavy drums of Dubstep, the EP introduces you to a world of melodic blends. The title track, featuring fellow Chicagoan Trell Love, samples Katy Perry but don’t expect a poppy song here. The chopped up sample blends well with Loves hardcore lyrics. The "Alien"EP release party was held this past Friday with Windy City Underground at Tiger O'Stylies in Berwyn and all proceeds went to the Blessed 2 be a Blessing Toy Drive. Overall, “Alien” is a solid release from DJ Que Eleven and DieselBeats! Congrats!!!

DJ Spotlight - DJ Tony Touch!!

The legendary Hip-Hop DJ Tony Touch has been in the game before a lot of us were born. Not to put the man on blast for his age, but the man has history in this game and still is putting in work till this day! His real name is Joseph Anthony Hernandez and he grew up in the mecca of Hip-Hop New York where he got his start in the early 80’s as a B-Boy. He was influenced by other legends like Grandmaster Flash, Crazy Legs and the Rock Steady Crew, Red Alert, and many more. He released a series of mixtapes called the “50 MCs” which included of the hottest rappers like Mos Def, Big Daddy Kane, Big L, and many more. Later Tony moved on to releasing albums off Tommy Boy Records. His album “The Piece Maker” moved 400,000 worldwide which had features Big Pun, Eminem, Busta Rhymes, and more. The lead single “I Wonder Why” featured the popular R&B 90’s group Total was a hit and the video stayed in rotation. Since then he’s still released albums and mixtapes, making his name still relevant in industry. He not only does Hip-Hop but mixes R&B, Reggaeton, and House/Dance music. Tony still spins in New York and all over the globe. If you have Sirius XM, you can check him out every Tuesday for “Toca Tuesdays” 8PM EST and follow him on twitter @DJTONYTOUCH. With all the things this man has done for Hip-Hop and music alone, he more than deserves the DJ Spotlight! #Salute

Lady Gaga and the King of Pop???

Besides success what else does “The King of Pop” Michael Jackson and Lady Gaga have in common? Well just recently Gaga purchased over 55 pieces of the Jackson’s wardrobe he wore on “The Bad” tour. The items were the jacket that Jackson wore on the Bad tour brought $240,000, while a pair of crystal-encrusted gloves sold for more than $100,000 each. Some proceeds will benefit Guide Dogs of America and Nathan Adelson Hospice of Las Vegas. Gaga tweeted out "The 55 pieces I collected today will be archived & expertly cared for in the spirit & love of Michael Jackson, his bravery, & fans worldwide." This shouldn’t come to a big surprise for Gaga is known for her fashion and making fashion statements on the biggest stages in the world. Gaga is currently on her world tour “Born This Way”. The tour will make its stop to Chicago next year February 13-14 at the Untied Center.

Lyrical Tyrant- J.Cole

Rapper J. Cole has been hard at work with his new sophomore album “Born Sinner” The North Carolina spitter doesn’t feel any pressure with his next release in fact feels less stress compared to the debut album. "Freedom, just having no pressure," he said. "As soon as my first album dropped, all of this weight was off me and everything was flowing out and that lasted a long time, months and months. So just the freedom of not having to please the label, the machine, that was very inspiring.” Another rapper having the same success is rookie Kendrick Lamer. Him and Cole where slated to have collaboration album but due to them having demanding schedules it’s been put on hold…for now. In the meantime you can check them out on the Cole produced track with K. Dot’s ryhmes on “The Jigg is Up (Dump’n)”.With this track alone shows the chemistry these to have so let’s keep our fingers crossed for the collab to come thru. Cole’s album is slated to drop on his birthday January 28, 2012.

Kendrick Lamar Chooses Second Single!!!

Now that some time has passed since his debut release, Kendrick Lamar is hard at work filming the video for his next single. "Poetic Justice" is a Drake assisted track that samples Janet Jackson's "Anytime, Anyplace" and is definitely for the ladies. The melody of the song is all R&B but Kendrick Lamar and Drake skillfully rap over the beat in a way that will have you snapping your fingers and tapping your feet. I know plenty of men that play this song without fear of being ridiculed by their friends, so this is the perfect second single for the California bred emcee!

Carmelo Anthony-Straight Ballin'!!!

Carmelo Anthony is definitely making a statement these past games. These past games Melo has had the spotlight on him. Wednesday night Melo scored 29 points when facing Milwaukee Bucks in a victory win 102-88. Anthony, who sat out the fourth quarter, was 9 of 18 from the floor and also grabbed eight rebounds in 30 minutes. The second-leading scorer in the NBA has scored at least 29 points in his last four games, including 35 points and 13 rebounds. Melo continues to get high praise from his players and coaches. "He's playing at an all-time high, I think," Knicks coach Mike Woodson said. "And it's a beautiful thing to watch." This goes to show you how hard work pays off from practicing this whole summer and putting the team on his shoulders. Jason Kidd and Amare Stoudemire both are out now. With those key players return look look out for the Knicks to be a force. But by the looks of things…Melo got this.

DJ C. Devone got her start on the New York Club circuit by being a door girl and this is what inspired her to become a DJ. Motivated by greats such as DJ Cassidy, DJ Jus Ske and DJ Beverly Bond-she began shadowing some of the Big Apples most influential mixers and eventually found her sound. She now DJs for some of NY’s hottest nightclubs and her list of clients include Bloomingdales and Macy’s her unique taste in music is attributed to her Bronx upbringing. A Destined Legend: Leon Rogers!

When you refer to yourself as the “Destined Legend”, self-assurance may be a strong part of your character. That can definitely be said about comedian Leon Rogers. In a very short amount of time the Chicago born funnyman has solidified his spot on the comedy circuit. Rogers began his professional career by competing in the Miller Genuine Draft Comedy search and came in fourth place. Five years later, he returned and won the competition. How’s that for determined? Now, you can listen to Rogers every morning on WGCI’s The Morning Riot show where he offers his unique comedic perspective on everything from sports to celebrity news. Quick witted, you will often find yourself bubbled over your steering wheel from laughing from his jokes. Outside of hosting a hugely popular morning show, Rogers also finds time to perform every Sunday at Jokes & Notes Comedy Club. He keeps a close relationship with budding Chicago artists and you can simply scroll down his Twitter timeline for a quick laugh. Leon Rogers is in good company of Chicago comedians such as Robin Harris and Bernie Mac but it’s easy to see that he is blazing a path truly his own.

Que-Tee of the Week: Gabrielle Union

Gabrielle Union came to most of our attention as a then little known actress who was always giving Kim flack on Moesha. From there a series of supporting roles solidified Ms. Union as a certified banger. Over the past few years, she has come into her own style. She has been dating Miami Heat guard Dwayne Wade for four years now and at 40 years old; she is in no rush to get to the altar. Already being married once before, Gabrielle has said she enjoys the fun she has with Wade and loves the fact there is no pressure to get married. DJ Que Eleven & DJ Green Lantern Blaze The Shrine in Chicago

No one can deny the power of the DJ anymore. Gone are the days where only the artist gets the shine, nowadays DJ's are blazing stages better than some acts. Yesterday DJ Que Eleven and DJ Green Lantern rocked the stage at the Shrine. DJ Que Eleven even had the crowd getting live to some of his tracks from his upcoming EP "Alien". To quote the great Lil Wayne, Go DJ!

Tony Cartel Shows and Proves!!!

Today all of Chicago is abuzz from the electrifying performances at The Shrine yesterday. Chicago's own Tony Cartel showed up and showed out. He performed some of his latest work including the blazing "Lord Knows" and "Rain Dance". Cartel even had DJ Green Lantern complimenting his stage presence and posting a pic on his Twitter. Check out his video for "Lord Knows" below!

DJ Que Eleven Interviews Jaz-O...The Originator!!!

DJ Que Eleven recently sat down with Jay-z mentor Jaz-O. The NY born emcee is most famously known as the man who gave Jay-Z his start. Basically, he was your favorite rapper’s favorite rapper. Jaz-O is currently working on a new album, “The Warm Up” following the release of his documentary. The legendary lyricist performed with the Def Squad (Erick Sermon, Redman & Keith Murray) at the Shrine yesterday here in Chicago. It’s good to see the homie is still doing well and putting out new material!!!

Artist To Watch: Snow Da Product

If you don’t know who Snow Tha Product is then honestly you may have been living under a rock. The female Emcee has spent the past couple of years building a buzz on Youtube. With a flow that is in stark contrast to her looks, Snow delivers on every single song she puts out. She is definitely grinding and her upcoming mixtape “Good Nights & Bad Mornings" is due December 12th.

Kreayshawn Wants To Clear The Air!

San Francisco Bay-Area rapper Kreayshawn has not been in the game for a long time but has seen her fair share of drama. Since she stormed on the scene with her certified gold single “Gucci, Gucci” the rapper has had beefs with Rick Ross, The Game and Azealia Banks and has been accused of being a lesbian and a racist, both of which she denies. The 23 year old-born Natassia Zolot inked a deal with Columbia Records due to the success of her “Gucci Gucci” single and recently released her album “Somethin’ ‘Bout Kreay.” One things for sure, even though she may be petite in size, this rapper is definitely willing to stand on her own! Check out her best "Gucci Gucci" below.

James Harden-Keeps Thundering On!

When James Harden was traded to the Houston Rockets, a lot of us had the WTF look on our face. Not only was he a key offensive player with the Oklahoma City Thunder, but he was named the 6th man of the Year. What seems to be OKC’s loss is definitely the Rockets gain. Since he has been playing with Houston, Harden has been a force to be reckoned with. Other than the game they lost against his old team the Thunder, Harden has been a beast on the court. Last night, he was limited to 3 for 16 shooting and the team ended their four game winning streak.

Me Against The World!!!

Chris Brown has seen his share of problems recently in his career. Just when you start to root for him, he does something idiotic that puts him under more scrutiny. The R&B’s latest altercation involved a female comedian on Twitter, with whom he exchanged heated tweets. Brown basically degraded the woman for the world to see, and after he realized the extent of the damage he did, in true Chris Brown fashion he deleted his Twitter page. Although he has deleted his Twitter page, Brown remains active on InstaGram-a picture uploading service. Recently he posted a pic of Tupac with the caption “That awkward moment when the only person you can relate to in the world is dead.” Outside of the Tupac picture, Chris has been posting pictures from his new clothing line Black Pyramid. It seems like he should focus all of his energy into this instead of arguing with people on Twitter.

Fuc*ed Around And Got Locked Up!!!!

Lindsay Lohan just can’t get it together. She was arrested early this morning following an altercation at a New York night club. According to TMZ, this is how it went down…Lindsay was at Club Avenue when she got into an argument with an unidentified female. The two women sat in adjoining booths when words were exchanged and Lindsay ended up sucker punching the woman on the left side of her face. By the time the cops showed up, Lindsay was a passenger in a car that was trying to flee the scene however the cops stopped the car and arrested Lohan. While she was getting cuffed, Lindsay repeatedly asked “Are you kidding me? Are you kidding me?” She was charged with 3rd degree misdemeanor assault and will have a court date in the near future.

Missing: Bookstores-If Found Please Call Authorities

It seems as if everyone these days has some sort of tablet. Whether its an Ipad, A Nook, or Kindle Fire, these devices have seemingly made our lives easier. But there’s one thing that was not expected with the emergence of tablets, the disappearance of bookstores. There was a time when there would be a Barnes & Nobles or Borders on every corner, now they’re harder to find than a hooker in a church. Although I love tablets, I still read paper books. There’s nothing like bookmarking a page by making a small triangle in the corner, or that fresh crease when you first open a book. With the holidays coming up, let’s try and visit a bookstore for gifts or giving a gift card to your niece or nephew. Physically holding a book in your hands doesn’t compare to the fluorescent glow from your LCD screen.

DJ Spotlight: DJ Gemini Jones!!!

Let’s face it; females are underrated in the DJ game. We have our Spinderella’s and locally we have DJ Dimepiece. But there is another female DJ on the rise; DJ Gemini Jones is making a solid name for herself. Currently she spins every 4th Saturday at Tonic Room and mixing at a barrage of local events. She definitely supports Chicago artists and is the reason why she was chosen for the DJ Spotlight!!!

L.E.P Bogus Boys...On The Path To Greatness

LEP Bogus Boys have parlayed their way to mainstream with hits like “Rush Hour” feat Meek Mill and “Kush & Leather” with MMG boss Rick Ross. They recently hit the studio with super producer Bangladesh, Mase, and even have a feature from Kanye West on their upcoming “Don’t Feed Da Killaz 4” mixtape. It’s obvious that Count and Moonie are hell bent on taking the industry by storm but don’t think they’ll going to strike just because the iron is hot. They have been working on the follow-up to the DJ Drama hosted “Don’t Feed Da Killaz 3” but will not release it until it’s absolutely perfect.

The Life Of An Intern!!!!

Many of you think that artists operate their own blogs, YouTube pages, websites and social media; however there is a secret weapon that many people use-interns. Interning can be a mutual beneficial experience for everyone involved. Interns gain valuable experience and hopefully a great reference and artists basically get free labor. Enter myself (Marquita) and my cousin (Claudette). We’re both students at the Illinois Center for Broadcasting (plug) and are interning for DJ Que Eleven. We’re basically in charge of building his brand. Whether it’s the posts that you see daily on your twitter feed or showing up at events for support, we’re the ladies behind the man! The life of an intern can be very tiring. Imagine just sitting at work one minute and being flooded with blog stories the next. If you don’t have a cool head, it can get overwhelming but this is the industry that we have chosen to be in and staying on your toes is essential! Many interns do a lot of the hard work and never get any credit but this isn’t the case with our boss. He makes sure he gives us the props we deserve!!! Make sure you follow us on Twitter- @DJCUTCUZ & @JONESY_BAD!!!

DJ Spotlight-DJ Pharris and Sean Mac!!!

Actors have the Oscars. Recording Artists have the Grammys. Even horrible movies at the box office get a Razzy. In a time where it seems as if everyone can earn an award, one key element from the entertainment industry was missing…Where’s the award for the DJ’s???? Well DJ’s look no further because thanks to former Bad Boy Exec, Shawn Perez, there is now a platform where the party starters are honored. This year a couple of Chicago’s own were honored. DJ Pharris and Sean Mac are synonymous with Chicago music and now they are being honored on a national spotlight. DJ Pharris took home the Midwest Mixshow Award and Sean Mac received the Midwest Club DJ Award. Congrats to the homies on all their accomplishments!!!

Julissa Bermudez: Que-Tee of the Week

Trabajadora. It’s the Spanish equivalent of hustler and it’s the perfect word to describe our Que-Tee of the week Julissa Bermudez. Bermudez rose to fame to many of us as cohost of BET’s daily music countdown show “106 & Park,” but she already had a resume a mile long at that point. While in high school, Julissa landed a national commercial for Coca-Cola and hasn’t looked back since. Her beauty may have opened doors for her but it is her drive and personality that makes people fall in love with her! This is why she was chosen as Que-Tee of the Week!

Elle Varner: Que-Tee of the Week!!!

Just two years ago, songstress Elle Varner was a mere Music Matters performer on the BET Awards but a few catchy tunes *tell me you DON’T sing Refill when it comes on the radio and I’ll call you a liar* and a Soul Train Award as Best New Artist have now solidified her as an R&B artist. Elle Varner is far cry from the typical R&B divas we have gotten accustomed to. There will be no gyrating, no pelvic thrusts or bizarre costumes at an Elle Varner show, simply one woman and one microphone. She is taking R&B back to its roots and with a heavy jazz influence; she is giving it a new sound. This is why she was chosen as our Que-Tee of the week!!!

Amber Rose and her Lil' Monkey Monk

Amber Rose and rapper Wiz Khalifa are expecting their 1st child together and the fans are excited just as much as the parents. The couple is expecting a boy and Amber is currently 25 weeks along. The entertainer has been tweeting from her account keeping fans updated about her status. “I woke up feeling sick this morning... 25 weeks and still nauseous :-( but it's so worth it for my Lil Monkey Monk,” she’s been on a restricted diet and Wiz has done his part to not indulge in his daily dose of “Medicine” while around her. We wish the couple success on their 1st child together and happiness!

Treated Crew-Album and Crown Release Tomorrow!!!!

At this point, Million Dollar Mano is getting exactly what he deserves. As the face of the notorious Treated Crew, the Chicago born DJ/Producer is prepping for his biggest release to date. Tomorrow is the official release of the album and treated crowns. But before we get to the frenzy that is “Treated,” let’s dive more into Mano’s accomplishments. Mano has DJ’d some of the hottest spots in the city and built his reputation as a hard worker. The same can be said for his team, as they all epitomize grind. As Kanye West’s DJ, Mano was offered a production deal with Def Jam when he came off the Watch the Throne tour but turned it down. Now back to the crown and album release. The album, XI.XV.MMXII, features all members of the Treated Crew and hard copies will be available with the crown purchase ($150) tomorrow from 9pm-12 at Jurgnaut. Congrats are definitely in order for the whole team!!!!

DJ Spotlight-DJ Whoo Kid!!!!

Name any aspect of the Hip Hop scene, and nine times out of ten, DJ Whoo Kid has done it. From DJ’ing, to starting his own entertainment business. DJ Whoo Kid definitely works hard and is one of the most recognizable DJ’s around the world. Born and raised in Queens, New York Whoo Kid has taken his accomplishments beyond Hip-Hop and capitalized off his success. He has DJ’d for the likes of Michael Jackson and the Prince of Monaco and you can catch him on Saturday’s on Sirius Radio hosting Eminem’s station, Shade45.
